Britney Spears' Ex-Husband Kevin Federline Accuses Her of Calling Ex Justin Timberlake on Night Before Wedding

Britney Spears’ ex Kevin Federline is rewinding to the night before their 2004 "I do" ... claiming he got one hell of a shock when he caught her on the phone with her ex, Justin Timberlake.

Kevin Federline, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, claimed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday that his soon-to-be wife called her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake on the phone on the night before their wedding.

Spears, 43, and Timberlake, 44, had broken up two years earlier, in 2002, after she admitted to an infidelity with the choreographer Wade Robson, who had worked with both artists.

Federline, 47, alleged that Spears was sobbing as she spoke to the NSYNC singer.

The Daily Mail has requested comment from representatives for Spears and Timberlake but hasn't yet received a response.

Federline's latest claim comes amid the publication of his new memoir You Thought You Knew, in which he makes the chilling allegation that his and Britney's two sons woke up at night on more than one occasion to find the Toxic singer standing at their bedroom door while holding a knife.

According to Federline, Spears' oddly timed call to Timberlake happened while the couple were staying at the 'Fairmont in Santa Monica in one of the bungalows.'

But he allegedly heard a conversation his future wife was having that concerned him.

'I’m like, "What’s wrong?" I thought she was talking to her mom on the phone or something and maybe she was, like, having doubts,' he recalled. 'And she told me that she was on the phone with Justin.'

Federline said he was stunned to hear the hitmaker's name, and he initially thought he might have misheard Spears.

'[I was like], "We don’t have to do this,"' he recalled saying, referring to the couple's impending nuptials.

He added, 'I didn’t care if we got married or not.'

Federline said that Spears tried to calm him down by telling him that she was just trying to say her 'final piece' to Timberlake to put any unfinished business to bed.

Spears' ex-husband recalled thinking, 'Damn, on the night before our wedding, this is what you decide to do?'

However, he decided to take what Spears said 'with a grain of salt' and chose to believe that she was 'closing a chapter of her life.'

Federline and Spears went on to tie the knot on September 18, 2004, just five months after they met.

ET's Kevin Frazier said that most people have found the conversation to be a 'hell of a red flag,' and Federline agreed in hindsight.

'Man, you're telling me,' he replied, before defending himself for being 'super young' at the time.

'I was so madly in love at that moment,' Federline added.

However, he claimed that after he and Spears were married, it was still apparent to him that she had unfinished business with the Cry Me A River singer.

Federline said he thought it was understandable that she could still be hung up on Timberlake at the time since he had been her first love.

'I couldn’t imagine what it was like to be her. I couldn’t imagine or feel what it was like to be Justin in those moments because they were super young, right? You’re talking teenagers that had to go through this globally,' he said. 'And I know that they really cared about each other back then.'

In a statement provided to Us Weekly, Spears' representative said, 'Once again [Federline] and others are profiting off her, and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin.

'All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism,' they added.

Spears and Federline welcomed their son Sean Preston, 20, in September 2005, and their son Jayden James, 19, followed just two days shy of a year later in September 2006.

Two months after Jayden's birth, Spears filed to divorce Federline amid concerns about her erratic behavior, including an incident in February of that year, in which Spears was photographed driving dangerously while holding Sean on her lap with one hand and steering with her other hand, instead of properly securing him in a car seat.

The divorce was finalized in 2007, and Spears lost physical custody of her sons to Federline in October of that year.

Federline won sole custody of the children in the wake of Spears' 2008 institutionalization, and he remained their primary caregiver throughout her years-long conservatorship, which was instituted by her father Jamie Spears, 73.

Spears was able to see more of her children in the wake of the dissolution of her conservatorship in 2021, but their relationship appears to have remained strained following an interview from September 2022 with 60 Minutes Australia that Federline and his sons did, in which the boys expressed concerns about their mother's mental health and they defended the importance of the conservatorship.

Spears subsequently lashed out on social media and accused her sons of 'undermining' her.

he accused them of being disappointed that their child support payments would soon be ending, wondering aloud if they chose 'to be painful . . . because it’s over in 2 years and you don’t get anything?'

The latest update from Federline comes after the New York Times published a disturbing excerpt from his upcoming memoir in which he claimed that his sons would wake at night to find their mother standing in the doorway while holding a knife.

'They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — "Oh, you’re awake?" — with a knife in her hand,' Federline wrote in the excerpt obtained by The Times. 'Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation.'

Federline also wrote about his growing concerns about his ex after she began behaving erratically.

He laid bare his fears Spears was hurtling towards an 'irreversible' direction: 'The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible,' Federline said in the book.

'It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK,' Federline adds. 'From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.'

Federline's knife allegation is reminiscent to a claim Spears's sister Jamie made in her 2022 memoir Things I Never Said, in which she claimed her scared sibling locked them in a room together while holding a knife - an allegation the Lucky singer denied as 'crazy lies'.
