Emmy Nominations Unveiled: ‘The Pitt’ Leads With 25; Mariska Hargitay To Host

The 2026 Emmy nominations have been revealed.

The Pitt and Hacks cemented their Emmy frontrunner status, picking up 25 and 24 nominations, respectively, as the Television Academy announced the nominees for the 78th Annual Emmy Awards Wednesday, July 8.
The Pitt and several of its stars will look to repeat after a strong showing at the Emmys last year. The hit medical drama won Outstanding Drama Series in 2025, while stars Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa both picked up acting prizes. The show is once again nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, while Wylie, LaNasa, Patrick Ball, Shawn Hatosy, Gerran Howell, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif, and Sepideh Moafi are all nominated for their performances.
In Outstanding Drama Series, The Pitt will compete against The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, Pluribus, Slow Horses, and Your Friends and Neighbors.
Meanwhile in comedy, Hacks will look to reclaim the Outstanding Comedy Series crown it won in 2024, but lost to The Studio last year. Star Jean Smart will also look to win her fifth straight Outstanding lead Actress in a Comedy series prize for her portrayal of Deborah Vance, while Hannah Einbinder is once again nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, a prize she finally won in 2025.
In Outstanding Comedy Series, Hacks will be up against Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking, and Widow’s Bay.
In terms of total nominations, right behind The Pitt and Hacks were the two big breakout shows of the past year: Pluribus and Widow’s Bay. Widow’s Bay, the creepy comedy about a haunted New England island, picked up 19 nominations, including acting looks for stars Matthew Rhys, Stephen Root, Dale Dickey, and Kate O’Flynn.
And Pluribus, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, earned 18 nominations. Star Rhea Seehorn is back in contention for an acting Emmy after twice losing for her celebrated turn on Gilligan’s Breaking Bad prequel series, Better Call Saul. And her co-stars Carlos-Manuel Vesga and Karolina Wydra are both nominated for their performances, too.
Other notable nominees this year include Beef and DTF St. Louis, which led the Limited Series categories. Reliable Emmy favorites like Only Murders in the Building, Abbott Elementary, Slow Horses, and The Diplomat all picked up nominations, as did The Bear — though, notably, star Jeremy Allen White missed out on an acting nod after three previous nominations and two wins. (His co-star Ayo Edebiri, also a previous winner, did score another nomination, while the late Rob Reiner earned a posthumous acting nod for his guest appearance on the show.)
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert picked up nine Emmy nominations just months after its historic run ended following CBS’ decision to cancel the long-running late-night program. Euphoria, for its final season, was largely shut out of the major categories, but both Zendaya and Colman Domingo were nominated for their performances. And Bad Bunny will be eligible for his first Emmy after his Super Bowl Halftime Show picked up nine nominations.
Actors and recent Emmy winners Jeff Hiller and Liza Colón-Zayas revealed the nominees at a presentation ceremony Wednesday morning, July 8. The 78th Emmy Awards will take place Sept. 14, with Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay serving as host.
