Kevin Spacey has denied rumours that he’s homeless, years after he was engulfed in a sexual abuse scandal.
Stories about the House of Cards star being began to circulate following his interview with The Telegraph on Wednesday (19 November), in which he revealed he’d lost the Baltimore home where he had lived for 12 years.
But he set the record straight on Instagram on Sunday (23 November). “I don’t usually make it my business to correct the media,” he said, addressing the “thousands of people” who had reached out to support him. “To all of you, let me say that I’m truly touched by your generosity. But I feel it would be disingenuous of me to allow you to believe that I’m indeed homeless in the colloquial sense.
“In my conversation with Mick Brown, the wonderful journalist who wrote the story in The Telegraph where this rumour began, I said I was basically living in hotels and Airbnbs and going where the work is, just as I did when I first started in this business.
“I’ve been working nearly non-stop this entire year and for that, I have so much to be grateful for.”
He then condemned the newspaper for “undermining the work of their own journalist by selling him out with a knowingly misleading headline for the sake of clicks”.
The actor came out as gay in 2017 after being accused of committing sexual offences against four men between 2004 and 2013, while he was artistic director at London’s Old Vic Theatre. In 2023, a jury cleared him of all nine charges – all of which he denied – including sexual assault and causing a person to engage in penetrate sexual activity without consent.
The previous year, a New York jury found him not liable for battery regarding allegations that he had picked up Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp and laid on top of him after a party in 1986.
