Janet Jackson's Designer Slams Justin Timberlake For Blaming Ripped-Top Row On Wardrobe Malfunction

The Janet Jackson-Justin Timberlake Super Bowl incident remained one of the most controversial moments in pop culture history. For the unversed, it included him ripping off Janet's top, exposing her breast during their joint performance in the 2004 Halftime Show. For decades, Justin has maintained that the viral incident didn't go as planned and that ripping off the singer's top was a 'wardrobe malfunction.'

No longer bound by clauses and non-disclosure agreements, famed fashion designer and consultant Wayne Scot Lukas is breaking his silence on the controversy that stemmed from Janet Jackson‘s now-historic Super Bowl halftime show over 20 years after the scandal first rocked (and forever changed) television.
Taking to TMZ in an interview published on Tuesday (November 3), Scot slammed Justin Timberlake for his role in the blowback Jackson suffered after her breast was exposed on national television at the 2004 halftime show’s end.
“[Justin] coined the phrase ‘wardrobe malfunction,’ which blamed it on me,” Lukas said before sharing, “He never made up with any of us [after the fact]. We all lost a lot of work. I had morals clauses in my contracts; I was losing jobs and I just had to stay quiet in support my friend Janet…and I did.”
Wayne says he doubts Timberlake will use his forthcoming tell-all Apple TV documentary as a platform to apologize for the melee of the event – especially considering he never extended an invite for the fashion designer to contribute commentary.
“I’m the only one who really knows what happened because I designed the outfit, I made the outfit, and I changed the outfit two days before the actual production. I know all the stories and all the secrets and where all the bodies are buried,” said Lukas before relaying, “It [was] the most functioning wardrobe in history. It did exactly what it was supposed to do. The biggest mistake was that the producers at MTV did not cut to black when they were supposed to.”
Later in the chat, Wayne doubled down on his belief there was never a wardrobe malfunction and that the entire stunt was orchestrated to top the headline-dominating MTV VMAs kiss from the year prior featuring Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears.
At writing, Janet nor Justin has responded to Lukas’ claim.
