Jinkx Monsoon To Join ‘Oh, Mary!’ In Title Role, Play’s Broadway Run Extended To January

ree

Two-time RuPaul's Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon will join Broadway's Oh, Mary! later this summer, following her current gig in Roundabout Theatre Company's Pirates! The Penzance Musical. The former Little Shop of Horrors and Broadway Chicago star revealed the news on Today June 18.

Also today, producers announced that the show’s Broadway run has been extended, with tickets now on sale through January 4. (Tickets previously had been on sale through September 24.)

Monsoon’s turn in the bratty curl ringlet wig follows an encore six-week engagement by Tituss Burgess, who had played Mrs. Lincoln earlier this spring when the role’s originator Cole Escola took a temporary break. Escola, the play’s writer, just won a Tony Award for their performance as the president’s desperate wife.

Escola’s final performance is on June 21. Co-stars Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, Bianca Leigh and Tony Macht will remain with the show through August 2.

Monsoon, the RuPaul’s Drag Race alum who is currently on Broadway in Pirates! The Penzance Musical (closing July 27), will join the Oh, Mary! cast on Monday, August 4, and play a limited eight-week engagement through Saturday, September 27.

“Now — I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Cole Escola is the funniest person alive,” said Monsoon in a statement. “Oh, Mary! is one of the best, funniest, most energizing things I’ve seen in my life. To be invited to live in this playground for a time is not only an honor and a privilege but a lovely chance to showcase the writing talents of one friend, the directorial talents of another nd everything else that comes with this singular production. Happy to trade in one pair of bloomers for another.”

Oh, Mary! is directed by Sam Pinkleton, who also won a Tony this year.

Oh, Mary! opened on Broadway on July 11, 2024, at the Lyceum Theatre, where it became the first show in the theater’s 121-year history to gross more than $1 million in a single week. Oh, Mary! since has broken its own box office record 12 times and became the first show of the 2024-25 Broadway season to recoup its investment.

The comedy is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum & Lucas McMahon and Mike Lavoie & Carlee Briglia with Bob Boyett, The Council, Jean Doumanian Productions, Nicole Eisenberg, Jay Marcus & George Strus, Irony Point, Richard Batchelder/Bradley Reynolds, Tyler Mount/Tommy Doyle, Nelson & Tao, Palomares & Rosenberg, and ShowTown Productions.

Monsoon is represented by Innovative Artists Entertainment along with her managers PEG (Producer Entertainment Group)
