Jinkx Monsoon to Play Judy Garland in Major Musical Revival

Award-winning actress, comedian and recording artist Jinkx Monsoon (Oh, Mary!) is set to star as Judy Garland in a strictly limited London run of Peter Quilter’s play-with-music End of the Rainbow.

Monsoon will take on the role of the The Wizard of Oz actress in Peter Quilter’s End of the Rainbow, opening at Soho Theatre Walthamstow for its May-June 2026 run.

It won’t be Monsoon’s first time as Garland, after the drag star famously played the icon during the Snatch Game of the RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars All Winners season, which Monsoon won. The series win marked her second Drag Race victory after snatching the season five crown.

During the All Winners Snatch Game, Monsoon effortlessly embodied Garland’s mannerisms, gestures, and voice. We can’t wait to see how it all comes together in 2026.

Like the film, Judy, the 2019 film starring Renee Zellweger which is based on End of the Rainbow, the play follows Garland in the final chapter of her life. It will also include some of the singer’s most iconic songs.

Posting about the news on social media Jinkx said, “Judy Garland came into my life, like many, through entertainment— but she stays in my life because of her story. We know all too well, the toll that fame took from her.

“Looking back, we can see more clearly the many factors that played a part in her storied life. I know people know me for impressions and imitations— but I’m thrilled for this chance to explore beyond the laughter and into the heart of why we still think so much about Judy today.

“Her tale is one that we can’t forget, especially as women in entertainment are *still fighting for autonomy and agency in their own careers. I’m ready to bring new aspects of her story to the stage, and to share what I find so tragically beautiful about her life, with my UK audiences.”

Monsoon recently appeared on Broadway taking over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Cole Escola’s Oh, Mary!. Before that Monsoon performed in Chicago on Broadway as well as toured her own shows such as the holiday specials with fellow Drag Race alum, Ben DeLa Creme.

Peter Quilter’s End of the Rainbow will play at the Soho Theatre Walthamstow from 15 May to 21 June 2026.
