JOHN WICK PREQUEL THE CONTINENTAL WILL BE A THREE-PART EVENT SERIES

The long-awaited John Wick spinoff TV series The Continental is finally taking shape. While John Wick Chapter 4 is currently shooting, we’ve now got some awesome news about the upcoming STARZ series.

A few months back we learned that The Continental will take place in the 70s when John’s mentor Winston (who betrayed Mr. Wick in Chapter 3) was just starting out.

Now comes word that it will be a three-part event series, each one with a feature-length running time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Continental, which is set in the unique hotel for assassins in the Wick movies, was initially envisioned as spinoff series but was redeveloped as a three-night event series with movie length and movie budgets. The installments are to run about 90 minutes in length and, according to sources, have budgets upwards of $20 million.”

The site’s report continues, “A prequel spinoff, Continental is set 40 years before the events of the Wick series and focuses on a young man named Winston. He will one day grow up to be the character played by Ian McShane in the Wick movies but in the prequel’s story is a young man starting as a hitman hotelier who, along with others, create a haven for unsavory types, all set against a backdrop of 1970s New York.”

Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli) is directing two out of the three episodes.

At first I wasn’t entirely sold on the prequel idea, because I couldn’t seem to wrap my head around how they can make what we’ve seen in the first three films work in a 70s setting.

If they can make it work, as well as giving us some Mean Streets-esque cinematography I’ll give the series a chance.

I just hope that when he’s done directing Chapter 4 that they can get Chad Stahelski to direct the third episode.
