Rumors are swirling that the Joker may be making yet another appearance in a Batman movie.

The Direct is reporting that Matt Reeves is planning for his Joker “to appear in the second and third movies as one of the films’ multiple villains.” The outlet goes on to say that the character will be referenced in the first installment, 2021’s The Batman, and that casting for the role has not yet started.

Starring alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman/Bruce Wayne is Zoë Kravitz (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of GrindelwaldMad Max: Fury Road) as Selina Kyle; Paul Dano (Love & Mercy12 Years a Slave) as Edward Nashton; Jeffrey Wright (the Hunger Games films) as the GCPD’s James Gordon; John Turturro (the Transformers films) as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard (The Magnificent SevenBlack Mass) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; with Andy Serkis (the Planet of the Apes films, Black Panther) as Alfred; and Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemDumbo) as Oswald Cobblepot. Twins Max and Charlie Carver have also joined the movie in “sizable roles.”

Matt Reeves hasn’t even finished directing the first Batman movie and we’re taking abut two more movies? Can we get the first movie done first?

Every Batman movie has featured the Joker as a villain. Heck, Joaquin Phoenix just won an Oscar back in February for playing the character. Heath Ledger posthumously won an Oscar for his portrayal of Joker in The Dark Knight. I didn’t even mind Jared Leto’s version, even though I heard they butchered his character in the edits.

Unless they can come with a different approach, I actually think it would be nice if they introduced lesser-known villains to the Batman cinematic universe instead of always choosing the obvious ones.
