One of my favorite Wes Craven horror/satire movies (and I have many, from A Nightmare on Elm Street to Scream) The People Under the Stairs is about to get the remake treatment courtesy of Universal.
According to Jeff Snyder over at Collider, Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) is on board to produce.
Sneider is also reporting, that “though Peele is not expected to direct the film himself, it remains unclear whether he and/or Win Rosenfeld will have a hand in writing the script.”
Peele will produce for Monkeypaw Productions alongside Rosenfeld.

For those of you who haven’t seen the 1991 original, “Two adults and a juvenile break into a house occupied by a brother and sister and their stolen children. There, they must fight for their lives.”
Brandon Quintin Adams starred alongside Ving Rhames, Everett McGill and Wendy Robie.
I actually think this is the perfect time to remake this film, especially since the film touches on the marginalization of minorities, healthcare inequality, classism, and sexism.
While Snyder isn’t sure if Jordan will direct, I have a feeling he will take the same approach he did with the Candyman remake and write the script and produce the movie, but pass the film to someone with promise as a filmmaker and a strong point of view.
