We are two days away from RuPaul crowning a winner for Drag Race season 13, and on the other side of the planet, WOW Presents Plus is gearing up to release Drag Race Down Under, which will pit Australian and New Zealand drag queens against each other.
We already know who the competing queens are, and who are the official judges, and now we know who the celebrity judges will be.
After rumors were swirling that pop empress Kylie Minogue was in Australia quarantining to appear on DRDU, it has been confirmed via EW that the Impossible Princess will make an appearance on the show.
“I’m so excited to finally be a part of RuPaul’s Drag Race for the first series [of] Down Under,” Kylie said in a statement. “It’s such an iconic show and I can’t wait to watch the contestants perform their hearts out to win the title of Down Under’s first Drag Superstar!”
Kylie’s sister Dannii Minogue and director Taika Waititi (Thor Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) will also make an appearance.
The Australian-born pop stars and New Zealand native Waititi are set to make their Main Stage debuts virtually in accordance with COVID safety protocols.
“I got to have a cheeky Untucked chat with the girls on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under season 1,” Dannii said in a statement. “They had come straight from the runway challenge so it was exciting and tense all at the same time, not knowing who was going to have to lip sync for their life!”
No word on who else will be making an appearance at the moment, but what I do hope is that Courtney Act, who flourished on Drag Race season 6 will appear on the show.
Then again, I can’t see Ru sharing the spotlight with another drag queen, so her appearing on DRDU seems unlikely.
Drag Race Down Under premieres May 1 on the WOW Presents Plus app, on TVNZ in New Zealand, and on Stan in Australia.
