“Happy Pride to all my LGBTQ peeps,” the comedian and actor wrote on Instagram. “From my block to my schools to my cast and crews to my friends to my family… wherever you are or have been in my life I wish you all love and support. You can be a straight man and still love gay people.”
Wayans paired the message with a playful photo of himself relaxing in a bathtub filled with oversized, rainbow-colored balls, holding a matching umbrella, adding a visual celebration to his words.
For Wayans, the message hits close to home. The “White Chicks” star has been candid about his journey as a parent to his transgender son, Kai.
During a 2023 interview with “The Breakfast Club,” he opened up about processing the transition, not just for Kai, but for himself.
“My daughter Amai is now Kai, and so, I talk about the transition. Not her, his… their transition, but my transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance,” he shared.
He admitted that adjusting hasn’t always been easy. “They let me… they know. They know I love her and they see me trying and that I’m happy,” he said, adding, “It just f—ks me up when I say ‘they,’ I’m like, there’s two of you? But I gotta respect their wishes.”
In 2024, Wayans revealed that he once tried to hypnotize Kai to stop the transition—an act he now deeply regrets. “I look back on those actions and I’m ashamed,” he said. “I was embarrassed the moment I was forced to look in the mirror. I was embarrassed.”
Since then, he’s arrived at what he calls “a beautiful place called acceptance” and continues to advocate for other parents navigating similar experiences.
