Marvel is Thinking About Live-Action Miles Morales: ‘It’ll Be Very Interesting to See Where Spider-Man Should Go’

After the MCU expanded on Peter Parker’s Spider-Verse, Kevin Feige hopes to have fan-favorite Miles Morales swing by the franchise.

There’s a scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (in theaters July 31), however brief it is, that makes one think of Miles Morales, the Afro-Latino teenager from Brooklyn who’s destined to become a superhero web-slinger like Peter Parker.

The character is currently the star of the animated Spider-Verse movies from Sony Animation, voiced by Shameik Moore, but Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige says he’s thinking about a live-action version of Miles for the MCU.

“You can’t think about the future of Spider-Man and not think about Miles, for sure,” Feige tells Entertainment Weekly in an interview with Spider-Man movie producer Amy Pascal. “Mainly I’m thinking about enjoying Beyond the Spider-Verse and Amy’s next movie. After that, it’ll be very interesting to see where Spider-Man should go.”

Moore first voiced Miles Morales in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The film’s popularity led to the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, and now Moore will return to the role again for next year’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, premiering in the summer on June 18, 2027.

The MCU, however, has been teasing the future arrival of Miles, who’s also now a main character of the best-selling Marvel’s Spider-Man video games from Insomniac.

Donald Glover appeared in the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man: Homecoming (2011) as Aaron Davis, who’s the uncle of Miles Morales. Glover then appeared in Across the Spider-Verse as the rare live-action actor to portray Aaron’s villainous alter-ego, the Prowler.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), when characters and actors from different sectors of the Spider-Man multiverse collided, Jamie Foxx’s Electro says, “Somewhere there’s bound to be a Black Spider-Man.”

In a separate interview with China’s Watching Hollywood press outlet, Feige confirmed, “Yes, we definitely have plans [for a live-action Miles], and I think a live-action Spider-Man movie has this destiny: to add Miles sometime after the Spider-Verse series ends.”

But first, there’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Holland’s wall-crawler is now operating totally on his own in a world where everyone forgot the name Peter Parker. Completely cut off from his loved ones, including MJ (Zendaya) and bestie Ned (Jacob Batalon), he now faces a powerful threat: a mysterious figure who can hop inside people’s heads and control them like puppets.

Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo return as Frank Castle/the Punisher and Bruce Banner/the Hulk, respectively. Sadie Sink of Stranger Things fame plays an undisclosed character — though fans have lots of theories about that. Other cast members include Michael Mando as Scorpion, Tramell Tillman (Severance) as William Metzger (an anti-mutant activist from Marvel comics), and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) as Detective Jean DeWolff.
