“You are confident. You are strong. You are beautiful. You are the greatest of all time,” the trailer begins as we see the King of Pop elevate from nothing to something overlaid with a soundtrack featuring several of his catchiest tunes.
The movie stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in the titular role. He can be seen singing, dancing and being elevated to superstardom through the two minute 16 second trailer.
Antoine Fuqua‘s Michael also stars Miles Teller as Jackson’s attorney and adviser John Branca, Colman Domingo as his father Joe Jackson, Nia Long as his mother Katherine Jackson, Jessica Sula as his sister LaToya Jackson, Larenz Tate as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as pioneering music executive Suzanne de Passe, Kat Graham as Diana Ross and Juliano Valdi as Jackson 5-era Michael Jackson.

The biopic is set to be released in theaters on April 24. There has been plenty of speculation about its release and delays. It’s still not clear from the synopsis or trailer whether the film will touch on any of the controversies that met the superstar later in life. The trailer drops two days before a UK documentary that will air previously unheard audio recordings from Jackson discussing his feelings towards children.
The synopsis reads: Michael tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world. Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.”
