NELLY SHOWS LOVE TO LIL NAS X AT IHEARTRADIO MUSIC AWARDS
Pegged a one hit wonder after the initial success of Old Town Road, no one could have foreseen the continued success of rising out rapper Lil Nas X.
While we have heard our fair share of negative remarks from a few of Nassie’s peers, Montero has found an unlikely ally in none other than St. Louis’ very own Nelly.
Nelly showed love for Nas at the iHeartRadio Music awards, and also when their paths crossed backstage.
“The thing I love about Lil Nas X is the “F U” factor. Listen, it’s so hard in this business to do you. Because from all angles you get people trying to pull you and tell you how you should do you. The fact he does him and does it unapologetically. Regardless of whether I agree with what he does or not. I’m not here to agree with him. I’m here to appreciate his authenticity. That’s what I love about him. That’s my little brother and I said it. That’s my cat.”
Nelly’s observation of Nas is exactly why I like him. Here’s an openly gay black man living his truth through his art, and he’s taken a page out of the Madonna pop handbook by pushing the artistic envelope while not giving two fucks what anyone thinks.
