NEVE CAMPBELL CONFIRMS SHE WILL NOT BE IN SCREAM 6 DUE TO CONTRACT DISPUTE
Less than 24 hours after rumors began to swirl in regards to Neve Campbell’s future with the Scream franchise, the scream queen has announced that she will not be reprising her role as the iconic Sidney Prescott in Scream 6, which started filming today.
Here’s what the actress told Deadline: “Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film.”
The actress continues, “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years,” adds Campbell.
The latest Scream movie cost $25 million to make and brought in $140 million at the worldwide box office, according to Variety. While Campbell did not specify the salary that she was offered, she mentioned in an October 2020 conversation with Jamie Lee Curtis, who played Michael Myers’s victim Laurie Strode in the successful Halloween franchise, for that publication, that it had not been on par with what the men in smash hit franchises had been paid.

Scream 6 will be the first film in the franchise to not feature Sidney Prescott as it’s heroine, and it’s unfortunate that the studio doesn’t see Campbell’s value enough to pay her what she should be paid.
Per Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media, the sixth installment will follow “the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
Melissa Barrera (“Sam”), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Mindy”), Mason Gooding (“Chad”), and Jenna Ortega (“Tara”) are all confirmed to return in the next installment of Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures’ Scream film franchise, alongside Hayden Panettiere as Scream 4 character Kirby. Just last week, Dermot Mulroney (Umma) became the latest to sign on.
Horror fans are a different breed, and the most loyal to their favorite characters. Say what you want in regards to whether or not Neve has had sustainable success outside of the Scream films, but when it comes to this horror franchise, she is THAT GIRL.

As the person who’s character has been at the center of these films for over 25 years, she should have negotiated making money off the backend, since all five movies have grossed $740 million for distributor’s Miramax and Paramount.
Hopefully the filmmakers will see the error of their ways should Scream 6 underperform at the box office without Campbell’s presence.
The next Scream brings Ghostface back to theaters on March 31, 2023.
