Perez Hilton Hospitalized After Appearing to Self-Harm in Disturbing Livestream Video, Police Confirm

Perez Hilton was hospitalized on Tuesday, Aug. 4, after deputies with the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office (MDSCO) were dispatched to his Florida home after the blogger appeared to self-harm during a TikTok livestream.

Clips of Hilton naked, covered in blood, and grunting while he dragged a knife across his skin that began to circulate on social media prompted multiple calls to local police, Argemis Colome, a detective with the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Public Affairs Office, told Entertainment Weekly.

Deputies visited Hilton’s home that evening, where they spoke with family members who were on the scene and confirmed that Hilton was alone inside. Hilton was ultimately “transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.”

“The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Crisis Response Unit and Licensed Mental Health Professionals are also on scene providing support and resources to the individual’s family,” Colome also noted.

In an earlier statement, Colome explained, “In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication.”

“Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public,” he wrote.

In a statement to NBC6 South Florida, Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan, Hilton’s agents, confirmed they were “aware of the concerning content circulating online involving our client, Perez Hilton... At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him. Our primary concern is Perez’s health and well being, as well as the well being of his family. Until we have confirmed information, we will not speculate or comment further. We appreciate everyone’s concern and ask that his privacy be respected during this time.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Hilton for comment.

Born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., Hilton is best known for rising through the ranks of aughts celebrity gossip blogs before founding PerezHilton.com. His aggressive approach and tabloid style made him such a notorious figure that he has played himself on episodes of series like Family Guy, MadTV, and Degrassi: The Next Generation.

In April, Hilton opened up about a scary medical saga that hospitalized him for 21 days in March. He developed an ulcer after taking prescription flu medication for a number of days, without following the guideline to always take the pills on a full stomach. A sepsis diagnosis demanded laparoscopic surgery to treat the infection. Hilton called the whole ordeal “the worst and best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

A few weeks later, Hilton shared a nine-minute video to his YouTube channel detailing his newfound belief in God.

“One of the most special things about this experience is that God presented himself to me. It was not a feeling. God presented himself to me... I was never a believer until now,” he explained. Hilton confessed to “deep shame and regret” about “a lot of mistakes in my past,” but expressed his hope that “God has forgiven me, and almost more importantly, I have forgiven myself.”
