Now that the upcoming Johannes Roberts-directed Resident Evil reboot has wrapped production, Sony is eyeing a September 3 theatrical release.
While opinions of the previous Milla Jovovich-led films are mixed amongst fans, here’s what Roberts (47 Meters Down) had to say in a statement to Deadline regarding what he wanted to bring to the reboot:
“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences,” said Roberts in a statement shared by .
Rounding out the cast includes Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin, and Donal Logue as Chief Irons.
Fall is starting to look a bit crowded when it comes to the upcoming movie releases, and even though I have a love/hate relationship with the Paul W.S. Anderson RE movies, I’m looking forward to seeing a new interpretation of the games on the big screen.
I just hope and pray that it’s scary, full of action, and has a story that makes sense.
