Ricky Martin's Nephew Drops Incest and Harrassment Claims, Case Dismissed

ree

It looks like Ricky Martin is off the hook, as his nephew has decided to drop accusations of harassment and sexual relations against the singer, leaving the courts to dismiss the case.

via Variety:

Joaquín Monserrate Matienzo, Carmelo Dávila and Harry Massanet Pastrana, the attorneys for Martin, released a statement about the dismissal.

“Just as we had anticipated, the temporary protection order was not extended by the Court,” it reads. “The accuser confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the matter was his alone, without any outside influence or pressure, and the accuser confirmed he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter. The request came from the accuser asking to dismiss the case. This was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations with absolutely nothing to substantiate them. We are glad that our client saw justice done and can now move forward with his life and his career.”

Martin appeared virtually in a Puerto Rico court to address the allegations made by his 21-year-old nephew.

Prior to this, Martin had been served a restraining order in Puerto Rico in early July, citing domestic abuse. The court is meeting so a judge can determine whether the restraining order should remain in place or be terminated.

Martin has previously denied the allegations against him, with the singer’s lawyer offering a statement regarding the matter last Friday.

“Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew,” Martin Singer, Martin’s attorney, said. “The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

Singer also maintains that Martin’s nephew is “struggling with deep mental health challenges.”

Ricky's husband Jwan Josef also posted a photo of himself and the Livin' La Vida Loca singer with the following caption, "Truth Prevails."

I’m of two minds on this. On one hand I don’t believe it because it’s the gay pedophile cliché, and as someone who has had a squeaky clean image for almost 40 years innthe entertainment industry, thisnisnthe first I've heard of Ricky in this light.

On the other hand, I recently watched the four-part documentary on Medudo on HBO Max, and band members were talking about how they were sexually abused by the guy who founded Menudo, and how he hung around other sex offenders in the industry. And we know about the statistics regarding how people who have been abused tend to abuse other people. Not all people sexually abused abuse other people, but some do.

So while Ricky may be off the hook (and personally speaking I'm glad he was found innocent), even if he is indeed innocent and the nephew has mental issues who made these accusations for attention, some will continue to have this idea in the back of their mind that Ricky is forever guilty.

Oh, and before I forget, Ricky is off the hook with the sexual assault case, but he's still being sued by his former manager for $3 million due to him owing her unpaid commissions.
