Mike Flanagan's new adaptation of Carrie debuted on Oct. 7, and the series has been thriving. The horror reboot is taking over the Prime Video charts, beating some of the streamer's most popular shows, including Reacher and its spinoff series, Neagley.

Carrie is the No. 1 most-watched TV show in the United States on Prime Video, per FlixPatrol. No. 2 is the Reacher spinoff, Neagley, with Reacher just behind it at No. 3. Carrie is also No. 1 on Prime Video worldwide, while Neagley is No. 2, Off Campus is No. 3, and Reacher is No. 4.

The Carrie Reboot Changes the Original Story

Mike Flanagan has earned a reputation for horror, with shows like The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and others; Carrie is the latest in the filmmaker's growing archive. While Flanagan had Stephen King's original Carrie novel and Brian De Palma's 1976 Carrie movie, he took some liberties with the new series, offering a fresh take on the iconic horror character.

Like the movie, Prime Video's Carrie focuses on a bullied teen with telekinetic powers who ends up going on a rampage at prom after becoming the victim of a horrible, cruel prank. However, the new Carrie is set 40 years later than the original story, requiring a more modern take since social media and technology have changed how high school bullying works.

The new Carrie also brings major changes to the ending. By now, everyone knows the classic ending of Carrie, where she's covered in pig's blood at her prom and goes on a killing rampage before also dying at the end of the movie. In Flanagan's Carrie, however, Carrie survives, leaving room for a possible second season.

Carrie's Star Is Ready for Season 2

While Carrie hasn't been officially renewed yet, Season 1's ending opened the door for more story. Series star Summer H. Howell, who plays Carrie White in the reboot, is also ready for a second season. At the Newport Beach Film Festival, Variety asked Howell when Carrie Season 2 would happen, and she said she's "heard things" behind the scenes about a second season, but Amazon has yet to make a final decision.

"I don't know. Ask Amazon," Howell said. "Oh, of course, I [want to return]. Yeah, I would love to go back. I have heard things, but nothing's confirmed yet, still. I hope we hear soon. I really do."

Howell was also asked if Season 2 could bring in any cameos from the movie, and while the actress said that was up to Amazon, she added that she would "love it" if the series brought in any of the 1976 film's stars. Howell said, "I think that's up to them, really. I feel like that would be really cool. I would love it."
