Tom Holland is back in superhero mode in the first look at “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” in theaters July 31 from Sony Pictures. Holland announced on Instagram the comic book tentpole’s official trailer will drop on Wednesday. Ahead of the trailer launch, seconds of first-look footage will be dropping on different fan social media accounts around the world.

In the first look at “Brand New Day,” Holland’s Spider-Man is shown saving someone as he web-slings between two buildings. A voice is heard saying the word “rebirth.” The gloomy, slow-motion aesthetic to the footage has more of a Zack Snyder vibe compared to Holland’s three previous outings as Spider-Man. “Brand New Day” is the first Holland-led Spider-Man movie not to be directed by Jon Watts. “Shang-Chi” helmer Destin Daniel Cretton is in the director’s chair this time.

“Brand New Day” marks the first time Holland has swung into theaters as Marvel’s wall-crawler since the 2021 blockbuster “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” That movie grossed more than $1.9 billion at the global box office, plus introduced Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Sony versions of Spidey into the MCU. Now, “Brand New Day” shakes up Spider-Man’s status quo and gives him a shiny new suit for Holland’s fourth solo movie and seventh appearance in the Marvel universe.

When “Brand New Day” wrapped filming in December, Cretton published a letter in social media in which he openly praised Holland. The director thanked his star for his “kind, generous leadership on and off screen, for your relentless work ethic, your fearless performances and for your friendship.”

“I’m so deeply grateful for the people who walked with me through the biggest, most rewarding film I’ve ever been a part of,” Cretton added. “To our amazing cast, for breathing so much life into these beloved characters and moving us every day. To our unbelievable crew, who worked tirelessly with unmatched creativity and craftsmanship, who made me laugh so hard my stomach never stopped hurting. I love you all so much and can’t wait for the world to see your stunning work on the big screen.”
