Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, one-third of 1990s R&B girl group TLC, wasn’t quite able to make the headway she may have hoped she could when she released a video apologizing for her perceived support of MAGA.

TLC’s T-Boz is not aligning herself with Donald Trump as her bandmate Chilli faces backlash tied to past political donations, according to sources close to the singer.

Close friends of T-Boz are making it clear that she has “always let her views be known,” pointing to her long history of speaking out on issues that Trump has spoken against, including “sexual health, HIV, the LGBTQ community, or Black Lives Matter.” The insider added, “T-Boz has been an advocate for the unheard voice,” emphasizing that her public stance on social and political issues has been consistent over the years.

The singer’s past comments about Trump have also resurfaced amid the controversy. During a 2017 interview with Channel 4 UK News, T-Boz said plainly, “I don’t care about Donald Trump … God is my president.” According to TMZ, the source says that position has not shifted, even as more celebrities get vocal about politics.

They added that T-Boz prefers not to be pulled into narratives that don’t reflect her personal views, saying that “unless you see her say it, she shouldn’t be brought into any narrative that pulls away from that view.”

T-Boz rose to fame as a founding member of TLC alongside Chilli and the late Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopez.
