Trailer Trash: Jake Gyllenhaal Kicks Ass, Conor McGregor Makes Acting Debut in Brutal Road House Remake

The official trailer for Doug Liman's Road House remake has finally arrived, and I must admit it looks much better than I had hoped, since I'm always pretty nervous whenever Hollywood decides to remake films that are considered "cult classics."

The film, which streams on Prime Video on March 21 and is a remake of the 1989 Patrick Swayze film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter struggling to make ends meet. After the owner of a Florida Keys roadhouse finds him sleeping in his car, Elwood Dalton becomes a bouncer and finds himself roped into a war of outlaws and bikers (one featuring real-life MMA fighter Conor McGregor making his acting debut) and a developer determined to build a lavish resort for “rich assholes.”

The film also stars Billy Magnussen (“No Time to Die”), Daniela Melchior (“The Suicide Squad”), Gbemisola Ikumelo (“A League of Their Own”), Lukas Gage (“The White Lotus”), Hannah Love Lanier (“A Black Lady Sketch Show”), Travis Van Winkle (“You”), B.K. Cannon (“Why Women Kill”), Arturo Castro (“Broad City”), Dominique Columbus (“Ray Donovan”), Beau Knapp (“Seven Seconds”), JD Pardo ("Mayans M.C.") and Bob Menery.

I have to admit this film looks really good, but I am pretty disappointed that Amazon isn't releasing this film in theaters. This is definitely the mindless, trashy fun kind of movie I would pay a ticket to see in theaters.

According to a recent report from Deadline, Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) says he's boycotting the SXSW premiere of the film because Amazon MGM opted to release the film directly to Prime Video instead of giving it a theatrical run. This is definitely a missed opportunity here on their part, and like Netflix with the idiotic decisions they make about their films, you're throwing away some potential box office coins.

I loved the original with the late Patrick Swayze, so what I plan to do is have my favorite snacks next to me while I watch the original and the remake.
