TRAILER TRASH: SUBLET

Sublet was slated to be one of the most anticipated films of the year, but since Miss Rona has come out and fucked up everyone’s plans, not only was the film slated to show this year at the now-canceled Tribeca Film Festival, but we have no word on when the film will actually hit theaters (or VOD).

Sublet, the latest film from Eytan Fox (Yossi & Jagger) follows Michael (played by John Benjamin Hickey), a New York Times travel writer who journeys to Tel Aviv after suffering a tragedy.

“The energy of the city and his relationship with a younger man (Niv Nissim) who becomes his tour guide bring him back to life,” reads the official description.

To get people who weren’t aware of the film interested, Fox has released an exclusive clip of the film. Here’s what he told NewNowNext:

This is a scene where Michael (Hickey) and Tomer (Nissim) meet on the beach in Tel Aviv after spending a few days together and this sensual setting sparks real intimacy between them for the first time. As these two men sit there, they open up to each other about matters of the heart—and soul. They are from two different generations: Michael is in a monogamous, long-term relationship, while Tomer lives in a world of casual sex and meets his partners via apps. It becomes clear as they speak that while Michael says that committing to one person is the greatest joy life has to offer and Tomer is put off by the idea of limiting himself to a relationship, both are struggling with how to connect, romantically and sexually. While their approaches to life are so different, neither one of them has really figured things out, even though they sometimes tell themselves they have.
