The hellish new trailer for the upcoming Netflix series The Sandman debuted at San Diego Comic Con yesterday, and I have to say visually I was quite impressed with what I saw.
The official logline: “When the Sandman, aka Dream (Tom Sturridge) — the powerful cosmic being who controls all our dreams — is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for over a century, he must journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos his absence has caused.”
The series is described as “A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”
“The Sandman” is a new dark fantasy Netflix series based on the comic book series of the same name created for DC by Neil Gaiman (American Gods, Coraline).
The series will be executive produced by David S. Goyer (Blade trilogy, The Dark Knight), with Goyer and Allan Heinberg (Grey's Anatomy) serving as series cowriters.
The Sandman launches worldwide August 5 on Netflix.
