TYLER PERRY ANOINTED BILLIONAIRE STATUS BY FORBES
Tyler Perry is officially a billionaire.
According to Forbes, Perry earned $1.4 Billion in pre-tax income since 2005, and is believed to be worth $1 Billion overall.
It also helps that the ‘Madea’ star’s vast wealth is dye to his 100% ownership of everything he creates; from films, to TV shows, to his laundry list of stage plays.
Forbes further unpacks how Perry’s fortune stacks up:
*$320 million from his library of film and TV media rights *$300 million via investments and cash
$280 million from the value of his studio lot
$60 million from his stake in BET Network
$40 million resides in his homes and personal material assets
Perry is also slated to receive the Governor’s Award later this month at the Primetime Emmys.
Based on Forbes’ issues in the past regarding anointing ”questionable” celebrities with the “billionaire” title (Koonye and Kylie Jenner); normally I’d give them the side-eye, but when it comes to Perry I believe it.
I applaud Perry for owning his work, and his very own studio in Atlanta. He may not get the full respect of Hollywood, but you can’t knock the man for his many accomplishments.
With that being said I just wish he would hire some writers, mentor some up and coming black artists, and add some variety to his work, because how many scorned black women movies, plays and TV shows can you write?
