Venezuelan DJ/producer/performance artist Arca has unleashed a glitchy visual to her latest single Mequetrefe, which is off her excellent new album, KiCk i.

She’s shared two tracks from it so far, “Nonbinary” and “Time,” and it’s already landed on Stereogum’s list of the 50 Best Albums Of 2020 So Far

In a recent statement about the video posted to Instagram, Arca calls its production: “one of the most alchemical transformative processes I’ve ever experienced making a video.”

“We did our best to lovingly, and with care, conceive and produce the video over the course of lockdown,” she continues, “in times when creating sometimes felt like a leap of faith!”

As for the song itself, Arca said “Mequetrefe” is about “the tenderness behind expressing who you are without shame, and the confidence and bravery it requires, because expression of gender-nonconforming self-states in a public space can often result in static within your environment.”

She also released a fourth single from KiCk i – the Rosalía-featuring “KLK” on June 22. The full album will also feature collaborations with  ShygirlSOPHIE, and Björk.

KiCk i is out now via XL. Check out “Mequetrefe” below.
