You’ll Never Guess why Brad Pitt Says He ‘Can’t Watch Porn’

Brad Pitt has no problem watching other actors work, but one popular form of entertainment apparently tests his patience. The Oscar-winning star recently explained why he avoids pornography, and his answer had less to do with the subject matter than with something he takes very seriously.

The Oscar winner briefly mentioned adult film content during his wide-ranging Esquire profile. While discussing soccer players flopping — where the athlete dramatically falls down in order to make it seem like a foul occurred — he made a throwaway comment about pornography.

“I’m gonna start a class for flopping, because these guys are terrible,” he said. “It’s some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen. I know drawing a foul is part of the gamesmanship, but man, they need a lot of help.”

“It’s one of those things that’s accepted but that no one likes—like ’40s acting, when the female actors would swoon,” Pitt added, imitating a swooning overdramatic starlet.

“Bad acting drives me crazy. It’s why I can’t watch porn.”

Pitt, who won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2020 for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, knows a thing or two about acting.

The win came after decades performing in dozens of films and three nominations for Twelve Monkeys, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Moneyball. He previously won an Oscar as a producer for 12 Years A Slave.

Upon winning, Pitt admitted to being “a bit gobsmacked.” “I’m not one to look back, but this has made me do so. And I think of my folks taking me to the drive-in to see Butch [Cassidy] and [the] Sundance [Kid], and loading up my car and moving out here, to Geena [Davis] and Ridley [Scott] giving me my first shot [in Thelma & Louise] to all the all the wonderful people I’ve met along the way to stand here now.”

“Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Ain’t that the truth. This is for my kids who color everything I do. I adore you.”

Two years after his Oscar win, Pitt said that he believed his time in Hollywood may be coming to an end. “I consider myself on my last leg,” Pitt told GQ in August 2022. “This last semester or trimester. What is this section gonna be? And how do I wanna design that?”

Since then, Pitt hasn’t slowed down, appearing in Babylon, Bullet Train, and F1: The Movie, not to mention reuniting with George Clooney for Wolfs. He also has a follow-up to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood coming up, the spinoff film The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which hits theaters on Nov. 25 and Netflix the following month.

Pitt considers his upcoming project, Heart of the Beast, a “love story.” Per an official synopsis: “After a harrowing plane crash, Special Forces officer James Belmont (Pitt) and his combat dog, Odin, find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Together, they are forced into a brutal fight for survival against the elements.”

Heart of the Beast opens in theaters on Sept. 25.
