Bad news for “Star Wars” fans: Adam Driver is squashing any possibility of returning as Kylo Ren to the galaxy.

While promoting his new movie Paper Tiger, the Girls series and Star Wars franchise actor revealed that his long-gestating standalone Kylo Ren movie is officially dead.

“Yeah, yeah, it’s over,” the 42-year-old two-time Oscar nominee said on a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, after the host inquired about his potential return to play the Star Wars villain he debuted in the sequel trilogy released between 2015 and 2019.

“No more Star Wars. We tried, we tried to do one more,” Driver noted. “Yeah, but they were like, no, he’s dead.”

Driver’s character famously died at the end of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, though the actor said he and acclaimed filmmaker Steven Soderbergh worked on a standalone Kylo Ren movie “for a few years” afterward.

“Really and earnestly, for two years. We got a script together that was really good, with Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt [Editor’s note: This is a pseudonym for Jules Asner, Soderbergh’s wife]. We all worked on it. It was awesome. It was really cool.”

Though Driver admittedly loved fan enthusiasm for his participation in the Star Wars franchise, he said he ultimately doesn’t “get to decide” his own future as the character.

“If they wanted to [revive it], fine, but it’s not our call,” Driver noted. “I think the ship has sailed, though.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Disney and Soderbergh for comment.

Though Driver won’t soon reprise the role in any movies, he did reprise the villainous character in a pair of Disney parks attractions, as he voices Kylo Ren inside both Rise of the Resistance rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando and at the Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif.

Outside of Driver’s work with Soderbergh, Spider-Man: Homecoming filmmaker Jon Watts was tapped earlier this year to helm the first installment in another Star Wars trilogy.

Watts came to the project after leading the in-universe 2024 miniseries Skeleton Crew starring Jude Law.
