Marvel Studios' plans for the MCU's mutant saga involve holding Wolverine back from the primary team at first, potentially introducing him in separate projects rather than the main X-Men Movie slated for May 5, 2028.

Marvel Studios will release its X-Men reboot in 2028, setting the tone for a new Saga of storytelling that will almost certainly focus heavily on mutants. Unlike The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the X-Men franchise opens the door to countless spin-offs.

Those could revolve around individual characters like Wolverine and Cable or teams such as X-Force and X-Factor. The possibilities are endless, and at least two upcoming Mutant Saga movies may have been revealed by insider Daniel Richtman.

"I hear that an Alpha Flight movie is indeed in development," he wrote, "as well as an X-Force movie." Later, he explained, "They really want multiple mutant projects [in the] next Saga."

This is the second time this week we've heard about a potential Alpha Flight movie, and according to another social media "scooper," That REDACTED Guy, Marvel Studios' plan is for Wolverine to debut in that, not in X-Men. It seems Kevin Feige is taking a different approach to Logan that's more in line with the comics, meaning we'll get to know him before he joins Professor X's mutant team.

Back to Richtman, and he claims Marvel Studios is also keen to still "do something" with the Young Avengers/Champions after 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars.

There's a lot to mull over here, but an Alpha Flight movie led by Wolverine is an intriguing possibility. The Canadian superhero team has heaps of storytelling potential, but Logan would obviously be the big draw.

First introduced in Uncanny X-Men #120 in 1979, Alpha Flight is Canada's premier superhero team, originally assembled by the government to protect the country. Created by John Byrne, the roster has included notable heroes such as Guardian, Vindicator, Northstar, Aurora, Sasquatch, Puck, and Shaman. Wolverine's story is tied to them through the Canadian organisation, Department H.

Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Ben Wang (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping), Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.

Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.

X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.
