Akon Says Chris Brown Could’ve Been This Generation’s Michael Jackson But Was ‘Surrounded By All The Wrong People’ Early In His Career

Singer Akon believes that R&B superstar Chris Brown could have had a career like the King of Pop if he had the right people in his corner.

Akon is weighing in on Chris Brown’s career, sharing his belief that the singer once had the potential to reach the same legendary status as Michael Jackson.

During a recent appearance on the “Kid L Podcast,” Akon reflected on Brown’s early trajectory, pointing to the environment around him at the start of his rise. According to Akon, that period played a major role in shaping how things unfolded.

“Earlier part of his career, he was just surrounded by all the wrong people,” he stated.

Akon added that Brown’s current team is much stronger, with the singer’s best interest in mind.

My opinion on this is that Chris Brown is a good singer and dancer. As far as having the same kind of pop musical impact as a Michael Jackson, I don't see it. That doesn't take away from the idea that he is talented. It's just that Michael is Michael, and Chris is Chris. Chris's image takes more from Bobby Brown than Michael Jackson.

And even though Akon excuses his behavior as him being around the wrong people early on in his career, what's the excuse for his behavior as of late?

At some point we have to take accountability for our behavior post Rihanna beatdown.
