The film is inspired by “Why didn’t Chris and Dan get into Berghain?”, a multi-part episode of the podcast Search Engine, about two Americans who fly across an ocean to try to get into Berghain, the most exclusive nightclub in the world.
Yang and Rogers reunite with Searchlight after starring in Fire Island, their critically acclaimed 2022 queer rom-com from Andrew Ahn which went straight to Hulu. Olivia Gerke and Oly Obst will produce for 3 Arts Entertainment, with PJ Vogt and Sruthi Pinnamaneni co-producing. VP of Production Richard Ruiz and Creative Executive Daniel Yu are overseeing the project for Searchlight Pictures, reporting into Co-Heads of Film Production & Development DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.
Yang and Rogers’ Las Culturistas was named Podcast of the Year at the iHeart Radio Podcast Awards in both 2023 and 2025. Time also recently honored the podcast as one of the 100 Best Podcasts of All Time. This year, the pair had their Las Culturistas Culture Awards televised for the first time on Bravo. Recently renewed to return next year, the awards show can be found streaming on Peacock.
A five-time Emmy nominee, Yang can currently be seen starring on Saturday Night Live, as well as in Wicked: For Good, where he reprises his role as Pfannee. Up next, he will be heard voicing a role opposite Bill Hader in Warner Bros.’ new animated take on The Cat in the Hat.
Recently seen starring opposite Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano in Netflix’s dark comedy series No Good Deed, and in Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune, Rogers also appears in the new season of the Kristen Wiig series Palm Royale, which premiered on Apple TV on November 12.
Yang and Rogers are represented by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Schreck Rose Dapello. Vogt & Pinnamaneni are repped by UTA and Jackoway Austen. The deal was brokered by UTA.
