Shortly before stepping in front of cameras for Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey, Shōgun star Cosmo Jarvis will exit the ambitious and star-studded project. According to Deadline, Jarvis must leave the production due to scheduling conflicts, with Logan Marshall-Green (Upgrade, Intrusion, Lou) stepping in as his replacement.

As reported, Jarvis had been due to join the likes of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson and Anne Hathaway in the anticipated film, but it turns out a scheduling conflict meant that he had to drop out shortly before filming.

Jarvis is gearing up to star in the feature biopic Young Stalin about the Russian dictator.

We understand that Jarvis’ role in the Nolan-Universal epic was filled by Prometheus and The Defeated star Logan Marshall-Green. The role remains under wraps.

The film, currently set for a release in Imax on July 17, 2026, is filming at locations in Morocco, Italy, Ireland and Scotland. Based on the epic poem, the story follows Odysseus (played by Damon), King of Ithaca, on his dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. During his voyage, the protagonist faces Polyphemus the Cyclops, Sirens, the nymph Calypso and the witch goddess Circe in the treacherous oceans that separate him from his island home and wife Penelope, who unravels a wedding train that she weaves every night in the event that one of the suitors who have taken over her home ends up marrying her should her husband not return. His memory is also guarded by his son Telemachus (played in the movie by Holland). The story also features Gods including Athena, Poseidon and Zeus.

A teaser trailer, currently playing in theaters, recently leaked on TikTok and X. Universal released a first-look image (below) earlier this year.

The question I have is was Tom Hardy not available? He has starred in a Chris Nolan movie before (Inception) unless he's a difficult actor to work with. So Nolan opted to go for the Shein and Temu versions of Tom Hardy instead of going for the real thing.

All jokes aside I am curious to see Nolan's version of The Odyssey once it's released in 2026.
