A new take on Washington Irving‘s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is on the way with Hollow, starring Sydney Sweeney. Deadline reports that He-Man actor Nicholas Galitzine (Masters of the Universe, The Craft: Legacy) is in final talks to take on the role of Ichabod Crane.

Hollow is based on the upcoming 2027 novel from Lindsey Anderson Beer, who is also set to direct.

Beer’s novel reimagines The Legend of Sleepy Hollow from the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel, who will be played by Sweeney. Instead of a damsel and love interest, this Katrina is central to a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle. The story is said to blend gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and erotic thriller elements into a contemporary, high-concept reinvention of the classic tale.

The source material centers on the timid Ichabod Crane coming into the village of Sleepy Hollow as a schoolteacher, only to be run out of the community by Bones under the legend of the Headless Horseman. Until Dawn‘s Belmont Cameli will play Bones in Hollow.

Crane was most famously played by Johnny Depp in the Tim Burton adaptation of Sleepy Hollow. Burton’s take similarly introduced new narrative components to expand the story into a feature-length experience and launched a prequel comic earlier this year. The recent Sleepy Hollow TV series also reimagined the classic tale, with Ichabod (Tom Mison) being fatally injured in 1781 and awakening in modern-day Sleepy Hollow.

Deadline notes that Galitzine beat out a long list of actors vying for the part.

Beer previously directed the Stephen King prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. Beer and her Lab Brew banner are producing as well as Sweeney, who will produce through her new Honey Trap banner, which has a first-look deal with Sony Pictures.

Stay tuned for more as it arrives.
