Is Jonathan Bailey the Next James Bond? Fans Think So after Jurassic World Rebirth Premiere

ree

Jonathan Bailey has dropped a huge hint that he could be up for playing James Bond. The Bridgerton and Wicked star, who’s now staring in Jurassic World Rebirth alongside Scarlett Johansson, stars as MARTINI Man for the drink’s new summer campaign following in the footsteps of George Clooney and Jude Law.

The ad, which was shot in sun-drenched Southern Italy, sees the 37-year-old actor teasing that he could be stepping into Daniel Craig’s shoes to take over the iconic spy role as he poses – stylishly, of course – with a Martini spritz in hand. Of course, vodka martini is famously Bond’s favourite drink, which he prefers shaken not stirred. This potentially huge, clanging sign post has, predictably, sent the internet into overdrive.

Fans have begun casting Jonathan Bailey as everyone’s favourite double-O agent, James Bond, after a particularly suave appearance at Seoul’s Jurassic World Rebirth premiere – and we have to say, we agree.

At this point in his career, Jonathan Bailey has conquered the Ton in Netflix’s Bridgerton, snatched the hearts of Oz in Wicked as Prince Fiyero, and is next set to go up against some dinosaurs with the power of his slutty little glasses, alongside Scarlett Johansson and Mahersha Ali in Jurassic World Rebirth.

The out gay star will play palaeontologist Dr Henry Loomis (with a special appearance on the soundtrack) in the seventh instalment in the overall Jurassic Park franchise and the standalone sequel to 2022’s Dominion.

And despite the film not yet being in cinemas (it drops 2 July), fans have already found Bailey’s next role – though we’re not sure he knows about it.

The fan-casting of Jonathan Bailey as James Bond has been floating around for a while, but after the star appeared at Seoul’s premiere for Jurassic World Rebirth (1 July), they’re gone into overdrive.

Bailey took to the carpet alongside his co-stars, with slicked back hair and a double-breasted suit that looked suspiciously like something His Majesty’s most rogue secret agent would look at home in.

“I see the Jonathan Bailey James Bond vision,” one fan wrote above a video of the heartthrob at the event, while another added that he was “serving James Bond eleganza” and a third that he was “so James Bond coded”.

“Okay but why is Jonathan Bailey not in the running for [the next] James Bond that’s what I wanna know casting directors get it together,” another wrote.

Added another: “Throwing it out there that Jonathan Bailey should absolutely be the next James Bond”

And one thing’s for sure; now, more than ever, we need a James Bond that can also pull off thigh-high leather boots.

Will Jonathan Bailey be the next James Bond actor?

The short answer, unfortunately, is that absolutely nothing concrete has been announced concerning Jonathan Bailey and James Bond – though he would be the first out gay actor to take up the role.

Dune director Denis Villeneuve has been attached to the next film in the series, its 26th, which said goodbye to Daniel Craig after 2021’s No Time to Die.

According to Variety, insiders have claimed that Amazon (Bond’s new studio), is interested in “casting a British actor under the age of 30”, with Spider-Man star Tom Holland, Saltburn‘s Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) at the “top of the list.” The film is reportedly eyeing a 2028 release.

But, when asked on BBC Radio 2 if he’d play 007, Bailey replied: “It would be hard to say no.”

Start shaking those martinis, Mr. Bailey.

Jurassic World Rebirth is in cinemas 2 July.
