Keke Palmer Says Living Below Her Means Is Key To Financial Security: ‘If I Have $1 Million In My Pocket, My Rent Is Going To Be $1,500’

Keke Palmer is emphasizing the importance of financial discipline, revealing that living below her means is essential to her long-term security.

Keke Palmer might be a famous actress and a bestselling author, but she still prioritizes saving. In a new interview with CNBC earlier this week, the One of Them Days star opened up about how she manages her finances.

"I live under my means. I think it's incredibly important," Palmer shared. "If I have $1 million in my pocket, my rent is going to be $1,500—that's how underneath my means I'm talking."

Palmer has previously said she inherited her "frugality" from her family.

"I learned from my parents very early on because they knew their limitations with money and finances," she said during an appearance on the "Club Shay Shay" podcast last fall. "I believe in saving and frugality...I don't play around with that."

Palmer scored her first acting job at nine years old, appearing in Ice Cube's Barbershop 2: Back in Business. By the time she was a teenager, she had her own series on Nickelodeon—True Jackson, VP—and her own credit card.

"My parents, at their best, made $40,000 a year," Palmer explained. "I was making that a show."

Earlier this year, the former child star attended Vanity Fair's annual Oscars party, where she paid homage to one of Christina Aguilera's iconic Y2K looks. Palmer selected a crystallized mesh Versace gown previously worn by the "Dirrty" singer.

Aguilera wore the mesh frock, which came from the Italian label's spring 2004 collection, at the MTV European Music Awards. She paired it with a bright red lip, matching blush, and ultra-skinny brows, though Palmer put her own twist on the vintage dress. The Nope star wore her auburn hair in a sleek ballerina bun, accentuating her features with a classic smoky eye, a glossy nude lip, and sculpted cheeks.

Dangling crystal chandelier earrings–a more pared-down version of Aguilera’s 2003 chandelier sparklers–as well as rhinestone-studded sandal heels and cocktail rings finished off Palmer’s post-Oscars look.
