Khalid Comes Out As Gay After Being Outed: "I Am Not Ashamed"

ree

Singer Khalid has come out as gay after being outed on social media by his bitter ex-boyfriend.

Khalid is opening up about his sexuality — and making it clear that he’s happy with who he is. In a series of Twitter posts on Friday, the American Teen singer confirmed that he’s gay after being outed on the platform.

“🏳️‍🌈!!! there yall go. next topic please lol,” the singer first wrote, using the LGBTQ flag, before responding to a fan to confirm, “I am [gay]! And that’s okay.”

“I got outted and the world still continues to turn,” Khalid continued. “Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me 🖤.”

The posts came shortly after a Twitter user, Hugo Almonte, went on a posting rampage about the artists he’s had sex with, and wrote that “one of your favorite gay R&B singers” once offered him drugs and “tried to set me up and lie that I broke into his house.”

Almonte, whose own music has less than 750 monthly listeners, claimed that the “gay artists that are out right now” are “shitty as fuck.” He followed up the posts by sharing a photo with Khalid.

Khalid has yet to respond to Almonte’s claims, but replied to one user who wrote that the “closet was glass.” Khalid’s response was graceful: “I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business.”

'Wait hope Mr Khalid isn't GEHHH!' someone replied to which the singer reposted and wrote: 'I am! And that's okay'

The lovely hitmaker was not done speaking his truth as he continued on the microblogging site. He wrote: 'I got outted [sic] and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality!

He remained active on the site as another commenter wrote: 'the closet was glass baby. but we accept you. its not about who you love its about your artistry! [white heart emoji]' Khalid reposted and responded by writing: 'I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business'

A different fan shared a snipped of the singer dancing in the music video for his track Satellite. The follower captioned it: 'Then there was the LGBTQ anthem he gave us in 2022 but ya’ll kinda slept. Either way.. hate that Khalid was forced out but he wasn’t "hiding" it. He just didn’t need to TELL nobody'

He finished off his eventful night on the site by saying: 'aight love yall thank yall I’m off this [peace hand sign emoji]'

Khalid’s team and Almonte did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.

The R&B star was quickly defended by fans and fellow gay artists, including singer Thiago Pantaleão, and producers MNEK and Amorphous, who condemned Almonte’s posts.

Here's what MNEK had to say regarding Hugo's tweet, calling his actions “loser Loser LOSER LOSER behavior." There were other tweets calling out him out as well.

In an email statement to Vulture, Hugo defended his actions. He wrote in part: [It’s] really funny how it works because my intentions was never to out someone who’s clearly been out already in the community in Los Angeles. My intentions was to share my story and share how he tried to use his power to silence me because I simply ended our relationship, he was afraid of what I might say."

He went on to mention how people have began to "belittle" his person and direct death threats at him. He shared that from this experience, he's "learned from this is never allow anyone to silence me, it’s crazy that these people said I was chasing clout, when I was holding onto this for five years, and I finally had enough."

Prior to the email statement, the Que Paso artist had previously posted a lengthy statement which made a similar point as he did not seem apologetic by his tweets. He stated, "if I had a chance to do it all over, I would do it again and again and again the same way.”

While I agree with him that there's nothing to be ashemed of, I would make everyone in my inner-circle, including everyone that I hunch sign an NDA.

As for Hugo, his music is pretty decent, but if Khalid is ugly then why did he agree to date him? Is it because you thought Khalid would be able to advance your mid music career?
