The Batman 2's Start Window Seeming Revealed In New Report

We're still waiting on an official announcement regarding the status of Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II, but a UK production site has now confirmed that cameras are scheduled to begin rolling next summer.

After the critical and commercial success of The Batman in March 2022, a sequel was first announced the following month, though filming faced several delays as writer-director Matt Reeves carefully refined the script, which was finally finished in June 2025, with its release set for October 2027.

Now, according to a new report from Variety on Warner Bros. Discovery's sale to Netflix vs. Paramount, The Batman Part II is expected to start filming "by the end of May." Additionally, Superman: Man of Tomorrow (a sequel to 2025's Superman) is set to start filming "in a few weeks," which is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027.

According to the report, James Gunn and Peter Safran's positions as co-heads of DC Studios appear to be stable amidst the sale with both sequels set to start filming soon, since replacing them at this stage would likely cause significant disruption.

Directed once again by Matt Reeves, who co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman Part II is expected to focus more on the Bruce Wayne alter ego, more than past Batman movies, as he tackles a new investigation that uncovers deeper corruption and growing unrest in Gotham City after the events of The Penguin.

Other than Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, The Batman Part II's cast also reportedly includes the return of Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and Barry Keoghan as the Joker. New additions reportedly include Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent and Scarlett Johansson in an undisclosed role.

With The Batman Part II finally set to start production by the end of May, it should have no problem being ready in time for its scheduled release date on October 1, 2027.
