Christopher Briney and Kaufman, two stars of the popular Prime Video seriesThe Summer I Turned Pretty, went to a Knicks game Friday, where the NBA team played against the Milwaukee Bucks. The two actors shocked the crowd at NYC's Madison Square Garden when Kaufman jumped out of his seat and kissed Briney on the jumbotron.
When the two appeared onscreen, Kaufman got out of his chair, grabbed Briney's face, and planted a big one on him. The official Knicks Instagram account posted a clip with the caption, "belly, you have some competition," referencing the show's protagonist and the love triangle she and Briney's character are involved in. In the series, Belly (played by Lola Tung) goes back and forth between Conrad (Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), leading viewers to either pledge their allegiance to Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah.
The clip also features the words "Everyone is Team Conrad," a reference to the show's sibling rivalry that runs throughout the series. Kaufman played Belly's older brother, Steve.
Prime Video confirmed that the season that premiered earlier this year, its third, would be the show's last. However, The Summer I Turned Pretty will be returning for a movie, though an official release date has yet to be confirmed.
The series creator and author of the book that the show is based on, Jenny Han, recently told the Los Angeles Times that she's not opposed to other spin-off ideas: "I’m definitely open to doing more stories in the universe. It’s just that I want to figure out what the story is that I feel so compelled to tell that I’m willing to spend the next few years throwing my whole body into it.”
