‘War Machine’ Sequel in the Works From Netflix After Action Film Becomes One of Streamer’s Most-Watched Films

Alan Ritchson may be re-enlisting in the service.

Following the massive success of War Machine, Netflix is moving forward with a new installment in the franchise as Patrick Hughes is back to direct the sequel and co-write the pic with James Beaufort.

Hughes also is onboard to produce along with Todd Lieberman through his Hidden Pictures, Range Media Partners’ Rich Cook, and Hughes’ producing partner, Greg McLean, through their Huge Film banner. Alex Young also will produce for Hidden Pictures, and Valerie Bleth Sharp will exec produce.

Since bowing on March 26, War Machine has reached 139 million views on Netflix, making it one of the 10 most popular original films to ever bow on the streamer. The film currently sits at No. 10 but has a chance to get to nine as the streamer continues to count views up until the 91-day measuring mark.

The film stars Alan Ritchson, who is likely to return for the sequel, and follows the final recruits of a grueling Special Ops boot camp who encounter a mysterious deadly force.

Netflix also announced that its original film Ladies First starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike landed in the No. 1 spot for films and series this past week with 18.8 million views.

Hughes is repped by Range Media Partners. TheWrap was first to report the sequel news.
